Well, my GSD found a stash of eggs over where my African goose girl has been sitting. I have looked there before and never saw a thing. I had no idea that geese bury the eggs (at least she did)
There were five and most likely not fertile because it has been freezing here at night. And they were filthy. But... I cleaned them off and put them in the bator. Never know.
And she laid another yesterday so that makes two more for the incubator (including the one she laid saturday). I gotta wonder when she is going to stop. Will she still lay next spring even though she is laying now?

Now I am just waiting for all of them to either vein or smell and hopefully not explode!

My Africans use to bury their eggs in the soil and actually hatch 12-14 goslings. You may be surprised at how many may still hatch for you. Now I only have Sebastopols and I have had a couple of their eggs hatch last winter. By the time I found the eggs they were almost frozen solid.
They still hatched. I think in your case with them being buried the soil the soil may have given them some insulation to keep them warm.

Thank you! I wasn't sure if this was common or not. That could make it really difficult to find them again knowing that she burys them. I guess I will just have to watch where she is sitting the most.

And good to know that they may actually develop. I don't know if I will be happy or not about that. (Happy) but oh my, the bigger my little goose is getting the stinkier she is.

She can already see over the top of her 50 gallon rubbermaid tote. Any ideas of when she can live outside?

I never thought about them burying them!

So THAT's what Wheezie has been doing with her eggs. Sneaky litttle critters.

Good luck with those eggs!

OMG she fooled you too?! Who would have guessed! From now on I watch carefully!!

I know I have one developing now, it is due on the Dec 11th. My nose says that the others aren't good, but I will wait and keep checking everyday. I guess I had better get the two good ones out of the bator that has the 5 old ones!

I am not sure about your girls but everytime I fill up my big black tub full of water, in a few days she lays an egg! I even saw them trying to breed on the ground. They didn't connect though LOL. Overly hormonal male!

Good luck to you.

Well Sheesh, just checked and two of the old stashed eggs are veining out.

Not sure about the other three but wow! I know it got below freezing and they were not buried very deep.

My problem is I really didn't think they would develop and I can't remember when I put them in...

So I know it had to be between Thurs and Dec 1st. Why do I do this

Oh well. She is laying an egg about every other day. How much do you think I can sell the goslings for? There is no way I am keeping all of them until they can go outside. That would be months! The one I have in here now is sweet but messy and stinky. Her I am keeping though. She is darling. I have another one due to hatch out on the 11th or 13th?? For some reason I always have to help a little. They superglue in there. But after they are out they are great.
