Found an egg on my dock

Altricial birds don't tend to imprint the same as precocials (ducks, geese, chickens etc) so at this stage it isn't a big deal.
It is likely comforting to him when you are around, when mine were babies I'd let them relax in my living room with me, they were soooo sweet lol.
We even visited a school with them to teach the kids about wildlife!

Is he begging much? Mine had huge appetites after the first day.

That is good to know! He is right next to my bed so I am always around haha He begs probably every 2ish hours, sometimes more sometimes less. Sometimes he is begging and I run to the kitchen to grab food and mix it together and he is back asleep by the time I get back!

I think it's a he too. You should ask them to tell you when they find out. Maybe they can vent sex him or do a blood test.

I took him to a bird rescue and I am crying like a baby! I had no idea how attached I had got. I don't even know what to do with myself now!

Of course! You put a lot into getting the little guy safely into the world. Will the rescue update you on his progress? Perhaps that will help. I'm so sorry. This must be so hard!
