Found an egg on my dock

So exciting! I would feed it feeder fish if for some reason you can't go to the rehabber (it's closed, late at night etc). Egrets can't go without eating/hydration for as longs as chicks and ducks.
Keep a close eye on it and wait 24 hours after hatching to remove it from the incubator.

Feeder fish at our Petco is just goldfish. Is that what you suggest? And are you saying to feed it while it is in the incubator? How does it get water?

I am worried about it hatching late as it is already almost 6 pm!

Also, I am really thankful for you getting me this far along with this little guy! So thank you thank you thank you for all of your advice!

I will admit that I know nothing of feeding herons/egrets/water birds. However, with my experience in feeder fish I would assume that goldfish are bad. They should have rosy reds and guppies as well. Either of those would be better.

I don't think you should worry too much, I don't have a lot of experience but I know that they can rest for 12+ hours after they pip before they start to zip. Maybe play some chirping/whatever sounds baby egrets make and see if it moves at all?

Petcos usually have a fridge somewhere near the fish or reptile areas with frozen foods. Buy a package of frozen whole silversides if you're going to feed it if you can't get it to the rehab fast enough. I want to commend you for making the right decision to turn it over as soon as it hatches so that it can be cared for properly! :)
While them minnows aren't as bad as the goldfish all the live feeder fish are pretty unhealthy and usually loaded with parasites, definitely not something I'd feed a newborn animal. I imagine you could just cut them while they're frozen then thaw them like they did in this video.
