Well, my two girls or at least one of them must be laying somewhere. My kids found an egg this morning, but the bad news is that my dog had it. So they are on a search for the nest. What do I do with this egg? What do I do if I find more eggs? I guess I should have thought this out a little better! I have chickens, but not a rooster, so none of them are broody. If I set the turkey eggs in the chicken house will the chickens set them on their own? Should I try incubating?

You do have a Tom correct?? Otherwise the eggs arent gonna be fertile.. Also I dont think you can force a hen to go broody.. If you do have a Tom and want to hatch maybe look on CL and find a cheap bator

I do have a Tom. He is my pal now as we butchered the other Tom. So what do I do as I find these eggs? Put them in an incubator as I find them? How long can they last without being set? For instance if I find them out there, I will have no idea how long they have been there. I really don't want to pen up the turks.

I broke open the egg I found as it has a crack. The bullseye is there. Guess they are doing the deed!

They can be stroed in a cool area for upto 10 days .. Try to keep them in a room that stays about 55-65 degrees and turn them three times daily.. Once you have enough to incubate then put them all in the bator.. Beleive me you dont want to put them in seperatly as you will have a heck of a time when they start hatching.. I am on the end of a staggered hatch and its kickin my butt keeping up...

You don't need a rooster for a hen to go broody, but you never know when it will happen. With a turkey, they will usually set after they have laid a clutch of a dozen or so eggs, if you leave the eggs in the nest. If you keep them collected, they will continue to lay. But if she is free ranging and your dog is getting the eggs, it may never happen.
