Found an whole egg without a shell

i got Barred rock on Aug 14 2010 from a framer market he said this hen was young then next day it lay a brown egg what was very soft like jello egg shell. i was give her egg with shell daily today i saw her in the nest box and little bit later i found the egg without the shell .
so i am wondering now if this bird is an old hen she nice and fat?

New layers will often times lay some strange eggs, like what you've described, at first. I just call them practice eggs. If you're feeding them a good layer feed, and supplying them with some egg shells or even some crushed oyster shell, they should be getting all the nutrition they need for laying nice eggs.

Don't worry, you're gonna see some of those eggs, and it's nothing to worry about.

She looks just like our Gertrude who is a very good layer. Even in this heat she has not slowed down.
