Found baby snake - Mom wants to kill - what species??

I absolutely love Brown snakes. They are docile and make good pocket pets. At least they did when I was in Boy Scouts at a young age. I seenthem when I'm out cycling and I always try to get them to move off of the road where they'll get hit.

They are so sweet and you're right Bakerjw they are really docile. They don't tend to get freaked out like some small snakes do. The kids can handle one they just found in the yard and they don't have to deal with that nasty musk some snake give off. Catch a ringneck snake and prepare to hold your nose!

Sad story. A friend of mine forwarded an email to me of a friend of hers that had bought a small plant with a plastic cover over the pot. You've seen them they are colorful and are almost always on the poinsettias at Christmas. Anyway this girl got home and took the tophat off and found 5 of the smallest brown snake I've ever seen. Must have just hatched. I'm sure the mother snake thought that pot inside the greenhouse on the ground seemed like the perfect place to lay her eggs. Anyway this couple like most people instantly thought they were copperheads and killed them. The email was being circulated to warn everyone about the poisonous snake at Home Depot. They little snakes looked to be about 3 inches long in the photo. What a waste!

We have them all over - in the garden and in the woods. They are harmless and docile little critters and part of a healthy ecosystem. Let the little snake go back to the woods.

We found one that looked EXACTLY like this one
