I thought a predator got her until the other day she appeared in the yard, then she disappeared again, Well today she came back into the yard so i waited and followed her, she has a nest under my tiller, with 10 eggs......will they hatch? I was shocked as i know she was born 4-23-09

I had something similar happen. I have 3 golden laced bantam cochin hens who laid one (yes, one) egg and went broody. They each sat on their one egg and some other eggs from other hens and hatched out chicks. It could be that some of the eggs aren't hers. You could sneak out there at night and reach under her to candle the eggs. Then you'd have an idea of whether they are developing or not. Just so you know, my 3 golden laced are perpetually broody. When they are done with their chicks, they've been put back in their pen and in a couple of weeks they are at it again. Taking the eggs hasn't stopped them either. If it was just one it would be okay but all three OMG.

Thanks Lucky Ducky, I am going to candle the eggs tonight....the eggs are so tiny, they had just started laying ....now even my chickens are helping to feed my addiction hahaha

Sometimes they do lay that young but it's not reccomended to hatch pullet eggs because the chicks run out of growing room and usually do not hatch well. Some breeds of banties are super broody. Cochins, silkies, seramas are just a few that I have had experience with going broody on a regular basis, I can officially add Bantam EE's to that list. Seems like every week here i have another broody to deal with. Pretty soon they will be taking over the house if I keep giving in to their shenanigans....
