My dad just found a chick in the middle of the road. I'm assuming a ~1 month old, female barred rock chick. She is scared and injured. I have never dealt with a foot injury like this before. She is limping, both of her feet are red and kindof swollen, and have a tiny amount of visible blood but I'm sure it hurts more on the inside of her feet. And she is limping badly meanwhile using her wings for balance. The rest of her appears to be fine. Is this just a sit and wait kind of thing, or if not what should I do? Thank you in advance.

Hopefully someone will have good advise for you. My initial thought is just wondering if her feet could have been burned on hot pavement? What a cutie, I hope she recovers well!!

Yes, that is definitely a possibility! And possibly cut on the pavement? But would that be enough for her to limp?🤔 And thank you, I hope she does too!! She is already a sweetie!!:love

It probably would not hurt to treat for a burn - if you have an aloe Vera plant, or a natural aloe Vera gel you could apply to the feet. Could even get a little ice pack and wrap a towel around it and see if she wants to sit on it.

Pictures of the footpads might be helpful. Do you think he or she was dumped or know how he/she could have gotten out? Maybe someone thought she was a cockerel, and couldn’t keep them? I would put plain Neosporin on her feet or the Aloe twice a day. Is there any way you can get another chick or two to be with her/him?

Ok! Here is one. No signs of injury on footpads.

We have absolutely no clue why she was in the middle of a road! My dad said that it was in the city, no woods nearby or anything so she could have possibly traveled a while. Or fell out of a truck. But if she fell out of a vehicle she would be much more injured I would think. And yes, we conveniently have 3 other chicks around the same age. I hope they accept her.:fl

Perfect! And I do have an aloe plant, I'll use that! Or neosporin like eggcessive had said. Maybe I'll try both and see what works best. I hope she makes it and she doesn't have a fracture or something. Unfortunately I fear its worse than a burn by the way she's limping😣
Wow thankfully you found her! Is she eating and drinking?? She looks pretty healthy other than the raw feet.
Yes! She is eating, but not drinking on her own so my sister forced her to drink by placing drops of gatorade on her beak and she drank some, but we'll repeat that process here in a few mins or so. ☺️
