Found a blind chicken wondering dn the rd alone .Looks to either been pecked badly on the face and head, or maybe an eye disease. What can I do to heal it? I dont think it will ever see again. I have it in my injured cage isolated on my porch with water and food. It will drink, I've seen it eat too. But don't know how to heal it! Please help.

The best you can do is to keep it quarantined in a quiet, darkened, safe place. Clean out the wounds with a mild soap and water. Rinse the eyes with saline. Apply neosporin, without pain killer over any damaged areas including the eyes. Continue to do this until it is healed. It could have gotten into a fight with a head roo or, it could have been used in cock fighting, either to train or in a match. Hopefully when the swelling goes down and the wounds heal it will see again.

In the meantime, make sure it can eat and drink. Provide scrambled eggs for added protein. You can use mealworms, also. Mix a mash with crumbles, yogurt and water. It will be easier for it to pick up and eat then regular crumbles and provides much needed protein, probiotics and moisture.

Good luck, please keep us posted with progree or, any other questions.

Also, I have begun an neosporin trmt on it's face. And giving it cantalope juice dly.

Thank you, I will get mealworms today! What antibiotics can I give it and how much?

I'm not sure it needs an antibiotic. Is there alot of swelling, foul smell, pus oozing? The neosporin should take care of all the external wounds. If you are concerned, I would get Duramycin 10. You can mix it in the water.

I havent been able to get her to eat yet today! She has crumbles and scrambled eggs. She has drank alittle water and cantalope juice.

Try the mash. Make it really soft. Carefully put some into the front of her beak. She may be in shock and needs to be put into a darkened, safe place to recover. Give her 24 hours before really messing with her. That should give her time to start to recover. Provide her with food and water. Then, just let her relax. Quiet and dark is the best medicine.

UPDATE:
The chicken is eating the mash very well, and has begun eating normal crumbles again!. One of her eyes have had the scab fall off and she might have a little sight in it. She is drinking well and doing great!. The neosporin id working. I have been putting it on her 2x a day.
