X10............ your neighbor may not be as attentive with their birds as you would like, but just wait untill you take them away. I say leave the hen do her thing she knows best and will do better by the chicks if left alone and not messed with. Plus you can keep the peace with those next door.

I too have to respecrfully disagree, they are chickens. And if they hatched on your property that i believe (i may be wrong and if i am please correct me) that technically makes them yours. Anyway, if your niebors put up a fuss you can offer to buy them or something. If you want to raise them...GO FOR IT!!!!

I would make the neighbor aware of the hen and chicks. I don't think I would leave them be, because with the chicks, momma will be more vulnerable now. The chicks and momma will need to get easy access to food too.

Tough one. Is it a winter hearty breed? My mother had a little silkie hatch out a few chicks one winter. They free ranged during the day, but it only took one night out in the cold to kill off two of the three chicks, and that silkie was one amazing momma! We felts so bad for her, but one chick refused to come in that night, hid under the barn, so she stayed out with all of them. So sad

Offer the neighbor $10 for the hen, don't mention the chicks. Then do whatever you'd like

I have to kind of agree if you walk over and say to the neighbor that your hen whether you know it or not has just had babies and they are over in my yard what can I do? Should do with your chickens or should I mix them up with mine to let them grow out. Do you want something for her and the kids like eggs perhaps as they grow out bc I will be feeding her and the kids? Maybe you would chip in for feed or if you want I will take them off your hands if you do not care about her and the kids?

I do know that here if your neighbor has a fruit tree that hangs over the property line you can pick the fruit that is over your side of the line. Sooooo it seems to me that if their chickens hatch eggs on your side of the property line they are yours.

I wish you a happy new year,

I don't think that is the way it works in the USA, as good as it sounds it isn't legal. Now maybe if you were in a distant 3rd world eastern euporean country yeah but not here.

It's sorta funny how a little issue like this gets so much print. This is easy-their hen hatched your eggs on your property. The chicks are yours, she's just hatched the little buggers. The US government says if any alien can get to the US and have offspring on US property, that offspring is a citizen. The downloader isn't. That does not matter. So what's the difference. You got the SC behind you.

Oh my.
I would speak with the hens owner and see what you can arrange to keep them all. That or call animal control and see what the laws are where you live.

She has stated that she spoke with them already, I think she just wants to know what to do with the chicks and their mama now.

To the OP, as far as temp goes they will probably be ok, but if your worried about predators maybe you could set up some kind of temporary shelter for them where they already are?
