So today as i was leaving target a duckling came out of nowhere and followed me back to my car. I attempted to find anymore ducklings or a mother duck unsuccessfully. As it was a busy parking lot I took it home with me. Im basically looking for advice as for the best course of action going forward. It seems like its had contact with people before as it follows me around the house and continuously tries to climb up me to my shoulder. Right now ive set it up with water in a big rubber maid tote. Ive given chopped romaine lettuce and a paste ive made out of cornmeal and water.

Ooh my heart!!! omg im in love.

I hope someone gives good advice!
My advice is always keep him and love him forever. But not always the right decision

Looks like a mallard. You can feed it peas and corn or hard boiled eggs made into small pieces until you can get dome duck starter. Duck starter can be found at a feed store. Or you could bring it to a wildlife center where they can r and r it with ducklings its age. Just make sure to keep it warm. Also what u are feeding it seems good. But I would add in dome hard boiled eggs.

Ok. Sounds good. Would defroated peas and corn work. Do I need to mash them up? Im not necessarily opposes to giving it a forever home. I just want to do the right thing. Its been two hours now and my son is already in love.

Ide run some peas threw the blender and see of itll eat the soupy stuff, or any veggie and then tomorow find a feed store

Its important to have proper starter feed

You’ll need to give it warmth like around 85 for now. And if your planning on keeping it know this it’s illegal to take wild waterfowl out of the wild and even though you found it in a parking lot it still is a wild duckling. It will need chick starter for feed and room temp water to drink in something it can’t climb into a drown a stuffed animal to cuddle with. Heat lamp or heating pad on low setting with towel wrapped around it ca work for heat just don’t cook the little one
