Found frozen worms in poo this am

Ok, so I lock up all my chickens each nite. Until our big "chicken shack" is finished, each flock has their own small one. The one that our polish use had a poo that had a

red/pinkish blob in it. There were also three worms

sticking up out of the poo at .25 to 1.0 inch up and frozen. They looked like day old dry spaghetti. I have only ever seen this one before in my life. When I adopted our big dog from the pound several years ago, it was this time of year. He got wormed before we left the pound and at night I took him potty. The next DAY when I took him potty, I saw where he went potty the night before, and there were all of these pieces of spaghetti

sticking up in wiggly form and frozen. It was gross

and fascinating at the same time. So OBVIOUSLY it's worms, but what sort? I have thrown a pumpkin the in the coop a few day ago. Just threw the WHOLE thing down and it split and I let the chickens and goats do as they would. So do you think that the pumpkin seeds are actually worming this polish? I seriously feel that I need to worm all 24 chickens and the three goats now. Not to mention my two cats who prowl around there also. So my BIG questions are

1. What sort of worm do you think this is?

2. What sort of wormer should I get?
a. 1 for goats and different for chickens?
b. Chickens of different ages take different meds?

3. What do do with eggs while worming this chickens?
a. Can they be fed back to the chickens scrambled or boiled?
b. Can they be incubated?

c. Can they be fed to our dogs or cats?

Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated. I knew this was bound to happen just as any animal tends to get worms at some time in it's life for some reason.

They're probably roundworms. I haven't wormed my chickens yet so can't speak from experience but I hear most people use ivermectin.

Depending on the withdrawal on the worming product you may or may not be able to eat the eggs, but you can cook them and feed them to the chickens or dogs, or you can incubate them.

Sounds like roundworms ~ there are several kinds, but a wormer should treat the whole "family." Guess you will want to worm the dogs, too.

If you have other animals such as goats, pigs, horses etc. You need to check these guys too. If your birds "free range" you will get worms, it is a fact of life. Worming a chicken is not a big deal. Use a mild wormer at first such as Wazine. Follow the directions on the bottle and you will be on your way. After a week, check your birds again. If you see other worms or other types of worms then you should get the "injectable ivernmectin" and use a few drops ORALLY for each chicken. This can take some time and you do not have to do it all in one day. Band the chickens you have done this with. I band with a white band on the left leg. If the birds get wormed again down the road, I band again with a white band on the right leg. After this I change colors, usually yellow.

As a precuation, I treat the whole flock with Sulmet after the worming. Sulfamethazine sodium 12.5 % is not off label.

I do not use "Corrid" (for cattle) as this has an off label application for chickens. People do swear by this and a product for Swine that works off label. People have had good success with these. I can not remeber the name for the swine product. When I find out i will edit.

The judge is out for these as for as I am concerned. Remember these are Antibacterial products and they need to be used as such.

Yes, I agree. Roundworms for sure. Wazine from tractor supply or feed store. Use as directed. This will not kill tapeworms or gapeworms but there are other wormers that will.

poultry roundworms cannot be passed to mammals. They are contagious to other types of birds though.

If the drug you end up using isn't labled for dogs or cats, I wouldn't feed them the eggs.
