Found hen after coon attacked her....**UPDATE**

Topps is doing very well. Shes been trying to run away from me while Im feeding her with a dropper. Since she still isnt eating, I am making her eat atleast alittle during the day. I could be wrong, but I dont think V&E water is enough to sustain her for long, though she is drinking alot on her own.

From the posts I read I guess the vet is something she really needs. I dont want any infection to set in. Fortunatly I just started working alittle at my Brothers shop, so I get my first paycheck tonight. I can use that and DH will never have to know LOL. He would throw a fit if he knew I took a chicken to the vet! Hes not real keen on my idea of a yard full of chickens as it is LOL

Thanks for the support, Ill keep posting her updates!

She laid and egg!!! It was rather thin shelled, but she still laid it! I was amazed. I guess thats a good sign. But on the other hand I wish her body would stop giving her more time to recover.

Shannon,
If you do take her to a vet, try to find one that specializes in birds if you can. Some of the vets that treat farm animals or dogs and cats haven't got a clue! However, they're better than none, I suppose. Glad to hear Topps seems to be feeling a little better. Still, I'd be very worried about an infection setting in and, also, her not eating. Have you tried hard boiled egg yolk, crumbled? Most chickens can't resist that! Also, yogurt with oatmeal mixed in is good if you can get her to take it.

Yup, tried the yogurt and the eggs. Not a bite. Turns out my son loves plain yogurt, so I have to go get more to give her LOL. I belive my vet knows chickens also, but I have to verify it. Hes big into working on the farms around here. I was going to put her outside in the grass (under stick supervision of course) to see if I could get her interested in anything, but its decided to rain all day =/. She has been a free range girl all her life, I think being cooped up in sorta depressing her.

Poor girl!! I hope she gets better soon. My favorite girl was injured very badly and did much better after the vet gave her antibiotics and vitamin shots. The vitamins really perked her up. Ask your vet about it when you take her.
Please keep us updated!

I think what you'd mainly be looking for at this point, if you want to do more for her, would be oral antibiotics. That would work throughout her system, in case any of her wounds were too deep, like puncture wounds, for the topical antibiotics to reach or in case you missed any of her wounds under all those feathers.

Are you still putting sugar in her water? That was a good thing to do, to keep her sustained after this first happened, but I wonder if that's taking the edge off her appetite? Otherwise, I'm not sure what to think about that. You're right, that it's a big adjustment to be confined, after being used to free ranging. She's been through a lot, too. I hope she feels better, soon.

Topps died last night.

I was taking her to the vet first thing in the morning, but I guess that wasnt soon enough. She was still having labored breathing, so I guess there was just more going on then I could see. She will be missed. Atleast I can bury her, cant do that with my other hens the coon has taken.

Thanks for everyones help and support.

I'm sorry too. Give her a pretty headstone if you can and if you can't maybe you could plant a pretty flower over her grave.
