Found hen dead this morning!

No previous sign of sickness. I am taking her in for a necropsy, very curious why this happened. Now I am worried about my other 12 hens! Also, could the eggs be affected? I just gave some away yesterday and I am worried about that. No outward sign of illness. I looked in the coop and there she was, kinda like she fell off her roost, laying down and her neck feathers were fluffy. So sad, she was a beautifull, sweet silver lace wyandotte.

I hope you find out what caused it but it sounds to me like she might have snapped her neck if she fell off of the roost in the middle of the night...

Update: Poor dear must have flown down and hit something hard. The necropsy showed a bleeding liver due to trama. Vet thinks she hit something hard and bled out(internal) over a few days. Sad thing is she was probably hurting, but showed absolutely no outward signs of illness so I didn't know to help her.) I am thankful to know what was wrong though. Glad it wasn't something the other chickens could catch.

If I may ask, how much did it cost you to find out what killed her?

My husband just called to tell my one of my Sumantra's is dead. With the cold, I've been watching them closely and haven't noticed anything odd with her. No signs of anything.

I'd be curious to know what the cost is, too, in case I lose my little pullet. I don't know what's wrong with her and the others seem fine.

However, it would be nice to know what WAS wrong with her if she passes in order to prevent/treat the rest. Does a regular vet do this or an avian specialist?
