well Ive been waiting for my scovie hen that i adopted to start giving me regular eggs - I keep checking the dog houses and nothing!

Well went out there and checked today and Found in on of the dog houses and hidden nest with five eggs! It was buried right down to the bottom of the dog house - under seven inches of hay.

Unfortunantly I dont have any "working" drakes. One is 13 and only does the job when he sees younger drakes mounting the hens. Then I have a scovie drake who JUSTfigured out he is a boy but hasnt mastered the technique - and only has been seen mounting a buff hen. Then my other two drakes are only four months old

If I had a working drake i would have them in the incubator once I had aout 10 or so.

My girls have always liked to burry the eggs either in dirt or thier nests. My aunt had geese that did the same thing, we used to have to go out and dig up all the old eggs and get rid of them

EWWW! Thats ne thing im not looking forward too - rotten eggs! Yucky yucky yucky!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh congrats on the laying duck! one thing I hate about my duck is that she destroys her nest after the ducklings have hatched!! the gets rid of her fluff and the bedding and pulls it apart

she hasnt burried her eggs yet (thank god) she just lays them in amusing places now and then.

Im going to either clean them all up and give them to my grandmother to eat/ blow or i'll just leave them in there for now so I can track her progress and hopefully that will entice the others to start laying - even though we are supposed to get snow tommorrow!
