Found hidden nest with 11 eggs- how long are they "safe" to eat???

Im guessing an egg a day or maybe a day skipped here and there- so maybe 14 days old total.

Its in the upper 60s during the day and cold at night (less than 50F)

Are these eggs ok to eat? Should I use them in baking to be safe??

This chicken will just not conform to the rules of laying in the nest box !! LOL

A few months ago I found a hidden nest of 30 of her eggs !!!!

i had friend a long time ago that had chickens and would ocassionaly (sp?) find hidden nests ... they would refrigerate the eggs immediately and just put them with the rest of their eggs


but when breakfast time came around .... they always had a seperate bowl .... one to crack the eggs in and inspect them ... and another to move the good eggs after inspection .... if a bad egg was found they would dump it down the drain and rinse the bowl out

Unwashed unrefridgerated eggs are good for around a month (likely more). Crack one open and check for any bad smells (aside from the normal hint of fowl smell, lol). You will know if its bad.... I keep all my eggs in a basket on the counter but if I wash them it removes the protective coating and then they must be refridgerated (still last an oddly long time). I've been doing it for many months now (after doing research) and have had no problems. Eggs are truly amazing.

Fill a jug with cold water and put the egg in - if it lies on the bottom it's fresh. If one end lifts a little it is ok but if it floats it is rotten and you need to get rid of it.
