I found my pullet's nest. 8 eggs, all hers and she just started laying (I kept wondering when it would happen). I'm in California, it's been 80's for the last 10 days or so and lows in the 50's. Was HOT before that. Do you think it's okay to eat these eggs? I'm not sure how long it takes a pullet to lay 8 eggs(do they lay everyday?).

I was JUST surfing the with same question. What I found was that in temps of over 70f they need to be collected within 24hrs; between 70f-40f you have 3days, fridge temps like 35f you have 30days.... Sorry for the bad news but it sounds like if you have no way to tell which egg(s) are greater than 3days old, you have to pitch them. Hopefully we'll both hear that the info. I found is wrong, but that's all I've been able to find so far. I'm going out of town for a few days so really needed to know.... Also, my pullet that just started laying is laying pretty much every day..... I think!

Hmmmm.... I just floated them and they all sunk. They didn't even stand up like the normal ones do. So, I guess they're okay? If I break them, like to scramble, then will they smell if they're bad?

I tend to think that if they all sink, and look and smell fine when you open them, they're probably okay. But I'm more cavalier about that kind of stuff than a lot of people.
