Yes.. he is probably lost from his loft.. that may be near you.

Sometimes they get so excited with flying that they fly too far away... or they join up with a passing flock of racing pigeons for a while... or even get blow away by strong winds.

But it seems he wants to stay with you now!

Look up vitamin A deficiency from all seed diets.. then vids and info on proper dove diets wild feral pet etc ("pigeons"are rock doves).
mine n others known n seen their birds eat when free: insects fruits n greens etc.
