Hey everyone,

I live in souther california. Today i got to work(carpenter at a museum) and early this morning ,found a rooster about 9' up on a tree branch. now this is in the middle of Los angeles. not many areas in the heart of LA for chickens let alone roosters.

I brought this rooster home and determined it to be a sebright bantam. I also noticed he had NO comb of Wattles. he was in a box and when i got home i put him in the coop and then opened the box lid. well before i could get out and close the gate he flew out the box and puffed up and started chasing ALL the big boys around (20-25lb maran rooster, new hampshire rooster,Brown leg horn and even my bantam black japanese). the other roosters didnt want anything to do with him they were trying to run away but this little sebright was on the prowl.

what do you guys suggest i do? im making the assumption that someone raised him to be a fighting rooster which explains the attitude and no comb?

the chasing means he just needs space. He needs a little time adjusting to your chickens. I'd clip his wings so he wont go anywhere. (That's what I do when I get new chickens)

I don't know much about sebrights except they're hen feathered, right? I'm wondering how you can tell it's a rooster with no sex feathers and no comb/wattles. I'd love to see a pic, always wanting to learn.

A lot of Roosters get dumped. Baby chicks are even being abandoned in my area - its crazy. Who really knows his story but its nice that you took him in. I would worry a little about disease because you don't know his history. I would have recommended quarantine for the new guy but sounds like he already strutted his stuff for you & your flock. He sounds interesting - you should post pics :) Good luck

I guess the crowing would really give it away, huh? I must have been tired last night, that never even crossed my mind!

I've had hens with spurs, but those sound like something else.....esp on such a small bird.

I thought later, that that post might have been misconstrued. It is none of my business how many roosters you have. I have one, and that is enough for me, and a lot of people have 2, it just seemed like a lot to me, but none of my business and I apologize.
