Today I found my girls hiding spot that contained 17 eggs. My question is.... This has been going on for several weeks. It's been hot 100, and very rainy. Are these eggs still safe to consume? Please advise. Thank you

Way too hot - I would junk them - not even feed them back to the flock. There will be other eggs - these are not deal breakers.

Hi there!

I too would throw them away and not use them. At those temps and you not knowing for sure how long they have been there I would not take the risk with them. Plus the smell would be horrendous if you did crack a rotten one open :sick

Hi, welcome to BYC!

x3 on throwing those old eggs away, you'll get more. Do you have a coop with nesting boxes for your chickens? They need to learn where the nesting boxes are so you'll know where to check for eggs daily. If your birds are new to the coop idea, you may have to lock them in for a few days and put some fake eggs in the boxes so they learn where to lay.

Good luck with your flock and if you have questions, feel free to ask.

Nice to have you join us!

Thank you, my thoughts too. Yes they know where to lay. They've been getting out through a hole in their tunnel and can't get back in to lay. Found the hole and fixed it so shouldn't be a problem again, I hope.

Thank you
