Hello everyone. I'm an unexpected chick owner after walking my dog downstairs near my apartment building. I've never even seen chickens around here, as I live in a pretty urban part of Toronto. I have no clue where it came from and could not find the owner, if it has one. I'm thinking it was abandoned.

Can anyone help me identify this little one? Its in my avatar.

I'm keeping it in a box with water, food and paper scraps for now. Doing lots of research on how to.care for it. This has been interesting to say the least. :)

It's hard to tell from the pic, but possibly a leghorn or white rock...it could be anything as there are countless yellow chick breeds out there. But he's very cute, I hope he works out!
Are you going to keep him? Are you even allowed to keep him in your apartment?

I'm still thinking about if I'm going to keep it. Pets are allowed in my apartment.

So is it even a chicken?

It is a chicken. Are you keeping it warm? Chicks need to be kept warm until they feather out. Best of luck. I hope it's a girl if you are going to keep in in your apartment. You may want to research chicken diapers for when it gets bigger.

How awesome of you to rescue it =)

You should find a ton of information on this site. There are even threads for people who keep house chickens.
Kudos to you for saving her. (I said her on purpose).

Heehee it's cute. Good for you for rescuing it, just keep it warm, watered, and fed, and it'll grow like a weed. I'm imagining it laying you eggs in a potted ficus in your apartment, and you getting them in the morning for breakfast.
