not sure what but I am assuming it is an egg?
Now what and should I be worried?
Thanks

Sounds like it’s not a good thing
My oldest chickens are 4 this spring youngest is last summer. I have 33 all together
I will research that
How will I know which bird it is?

I read the link above but still not sure if it’s contagious?
Do I need to get rid of all?

It is not contagious. There is no need to get rid of your other birds. Usually age related, so *probably* one of your older ladies. Maybe seeing who sleeps where, can help you identify her. That is the MAIN reason I appreciate my droppings board, makes it easier to see things. I have had a girl lay a lash egg one day and regular the next time... who I was able to identify easily by her "hidden" nest. It's still symptomatic and my response is the same as if I didn't see another regular egg.

Sorry, many of us have and will face this again. :(

When I figure out who it is, we cull right away, before they have a chance to decline and become uncomfortable. The last girl, also 4 and in seemingly good health otherwise was given away for processing to a know individual. We process our birds but not comfortable doing the ladies for some reason. IMO, the reproductive tract gets removed anyways. Never heard anything back about tainted meat or anything to that effect.

Another way I avoid facing this is by switching out older girls (while they still have good laying left) for pullets in order to maintain winter laying. I guess selfishly it also diminishes the heartache faced when they do start to decline. Which some won't until 7 or 10 years. It really is an individual issue as far as I can tell.

And I guess I should say that if it was one of my "pet" girls verses a breeder... my response would be different. In that I would likely do as much supportive care as possible, within my means before dispatching when necessary.

Good job being on the look out!

Another lash egg today:thThe first I’ve noticed since February. I have lost two since then one from bleeding from the mouth and the other ascites so now I guess I need to figure which one out of 28 hens:eek: I don’t like for them to suffer either hope I can figure it out! Not much of a vet:he
