Hi This very fine rooster found us (my little flock has no rooster). It looks exactly like the photo of the cream Legbar rooster on your breed page. We don't want any rooster since I think they attract predators and roosters present their own set of problems - but we can't get rid of him though the horses are good about trying to chase him off. I used the rooster handling tips found on this site and now that he exhibits respectful behavior I am grumpily allowing him to stay. My very fat old red cap hen is in love and acting like the young coquette. We are out in the middle nowhere though NE of Austin, Texas and the neighbors don't know where he came from. All our dogs are trained to stay away from poultry and since he is roosting in our nearest neighbor's compound the coyotes haven't gotten him. There is no room in the night time coop and if he causes any problems I'll have to relocate him. The card in my camera is full but you can look at the photo on the breed page under Legbar if you wish to see what he looks like.

Hello, you must be out Cedar Park way! I get so homesick for the Hill Country sometimes, like now.

Cream Legbars, as far as I know, have only been imported by one breeder in the US, they're very hard to find and pretty pricey. Having looked at the pic in the breed index and not having seen yours, I going to venture a tentative guess that you might have an EE (Easter Egger) rooster. I've only had one in the past, and once he fully matured he was a sweetheart, very good at protecting his flock. He died one night while protecting them.

I would suggest you also post in the Texas thread, here's the link. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=44&p=231
and
on Austin Craig's List.

Good luck on the rehoming!

Just having hens will attract predators a roo will help protect your hens and keep an eye out for predators, give warnings when bad stuff is flying over or comming around ect ect ect.

Hi

About this visiting rooster. He looks exactly like the photo of the UK rooster (Leggbar) but is not the same colors shown on the EE rooster on the breed page. I don't know what the difference is between
a single comb and a pea comb - The EE photo's comb looks the same as the Legbar photo's comb - to me. I'll get a photo if I can but now he is afraid of me which I'l let go a few days before I tame him.
I see that Legbars are almost non existent in this country with counterfeits common. All I can say is that this is a gorgeous bird (nicer than the photos on this website) which looks exactly like a Legbar.
In fact, he's so pretty my husband said he can stay and that's a big deal - as long as he doesn't start attacking us or the owner doesn't appear. My hens are ecstatic. They've never seen a rooster.

Storminstafs in Durham....

Although I know this is an old post--- I just wanted to say that your rooster is 'drop-dead-gorgeous'. I hope my little guy grows up to be as strikingly beautiful. How old is your rooster...what is his disposition like?

Thanks, i rehomed him a while ago now, not allowed roosters anymore, he was around a year old in the picture, and wasn't the friendly rooster going, he would sometimes spur me with really hurt get a few bruises of him and he terrified my niece

Thanks for the update. It sounds like your flock is really an interesting one. Still thinking that your former rooster is gorgeous! ;O)

So far mine is very fiesty but quite sweet when held...he kind of stretches out and closes his eyes---as if taking a nap. Relaxing maybe from the world of being a growing rooster....
