Very concerned about chicken. Ever since I used this spray the local chicken man gave me for mites.., my little girl appears ashen and sleepy. I cleaned out all the junk from under the house the landlord had left and raked earth. Killed my back. Gave her a big red pill, that he said killed 4 things, but not one other thing. And to give this huge red pill to her in 10 days which is today, but maybe that was what hurt her and not the nasty spray. I am very confused and want to clean up my act to help her. I have always had cats and when we moved to hawaii, the cat dragged in this little chick half dead. I didn't know it was a chick. But I adore her and now she is molting, probably due to nasty spray with dog on it.??
We don't have a hen house. She sleeps in a basket I hang from the Lanai. I put a sheet or towel in her basket. A clean one every day. I try to keep the yard clean and poo watered into the garden. Since then we got two other hens from the chicken man. I just felt bad for them in the tiny cage. I am completely overwhelmed. If anyone has any immediate and long term suggestions I would be very appreciative and pass on the kindness.

PS I have been reading forum and looked chicken poo pictures. But "B's" poo has these white things that are much shorter, maybe just some kind of plasma, whatever that is.. oy vey

PPS I googled sleepy and grey 3 days ago, and freaked thinking she had an impacted egg... looked for a vet.. made appointment.. cancel appointment. gave her tons of calcium. She seems much more sprite. Ran towards me yesterday. Mirroring the two other girls in the yard...

PPSS is cat food bad for the chickens once in awhile?

I would not give her the second worming pill while she is under the weather. Hold off on that for now. You need to make sure she drinks plenty of water to help her flush out her system. What do you feed her? As to the spray, I suggest being very careful about using products developed for other species on birds. They are very sensitive and there is not much room for error. Don't know how you feel about spending $ on her but I would take her to a bird vet. Or at least call, review what you gave her with them over the phone and see if she needs to go in. You can mail order products for her in the future from sites dedicated to chickens. I'm very suspicious of your "chicken man".

Thanks for your response. I made a vet appointment for tomorrow. I gave her a bath and tried to push liquids. I am glad to hear you say to hold off on that red pill. Some of the people in my neck of the wood fight birds and just don't seem to care. When I bought the other two hens, my original plan had been to just set them free; the chicken man put them in bag! I live close so I just got out of there. I appreciate your consideration.

You may want to smash some cloves of garlic in your chickens water. Garlic helps worms, and colds. I usually put garlic in my chickens water every few weeks. It helps a lot. Good Luck
