Four hours, three stores, two counties

I use pine shavings never a problem, cedar is what you are to avoid for respiratory problems.

Got a TSC gritsar? Our local feedstore sells a good brand I always use and I stock up 2 at a time. 1 bag does my whole henhouse, nestboxes included.

Darn, you live in a tough area! No booze or shavings..*tisk, tisk*

Those bags work well from TSC just make sure they haven't been left out in the rain and damp. I've had to look through those clear bags for mold.

My local feedstore bags are 5.49 ea.

Nope, there's a tractor supply but it's even further away than the Atwoods; which is almost an hour away. DH opted for going north today instead of south. By the time we found out that even Atwoods was out, it was too late to head south.
Wish we'd get an Atwoods closer. I can get a bale that uncompressed = 7 cu. feet for roughly $5.
Yes, Red. Maybe if we weren't in a dry county I'd have something to make me forget the coop needs cleaning.

If I have to get them at walmart, which I sometimes do because it's closer, they are roughly $8 for a 5 cu. ft. bale. At Atwoods, I get a 7 cu. ft. bale for $5 and the shavings look better.

There ya go!!! I didn't know dry counties still existed!!

Can't remember the size of the bag---I think it's 3 cu. ft. compressed, expands to 5 cu. ft.. Don't want to run out to the barn in the dark right now to look! Anyway, it's $10 at TSC (for the Aspen shavings). I don't know whether pine causes problems or not. I used to use it, but have switched to Aspen. Cost is about the same, and I didn't want to take a chance.

Same size bag is about $13 or so at Petsmart and about $16 at a small pet shop here in town.

Pine shavings will not hurt the birds. Been using them all these years. Cedar yes but not pine or wood shavings.

You could use straw to get by. It gets damp faster, and isn't the best choice, but it would allow you to clean the coop, and buy you a couple weeks until the feedmill gets pine shavings in again.
