Do I just have a roo here or just a feisty hen? No crowing, no shiny saddle feathers, but is snotty with the very definite rooster of the same age and picked a fight with one of the grown hens when she/he was just eight weeks. (Walked up, tilted its head waaay back to be able to see and pecked her middle, which is as high as it could reach. I swear the hen looked shocked for a few seconds before she was like, Oh no you didn't and chased the chick halfway across the pen.) It is also very protective of one of the little d'uccle hens. I'm keeping it regardless, as it is my nephew's favorite bird, but I am about to re-arrange the coops and runs and it makes a difference in that regard.

That's definitely a pullet. Looks like she'll be laying soon. It is not uncommon for some hens/pullets to be feisty and even challenge young cockerels. Cute chicken. :)

Oh, yay! I was hoping for a pullet, as I really have enough roos, but I've never had one be so...opinionated about stuff.
