Four of my silkies disappeared withou a trace

Thanks! No matter what breed they are.. they are loved and it hurts when you loose them. Sorry for your loss.. This is the part about owning chickens that I hate... Kiss all your chicks tonight - they are truly Gods little angels ( with wings)! I am working at letting go - and it helps to have friends help you along the journey. Thank you all for being my friends.. Someday - I believe we will all meet again in the big farm in the sky :)

learn your lesson and dont use or trust the kid again.

if you know he didnt shovel, write him off as a liar.

I learned my lesson the hard way too. Went to a wedding to get a phone call about my birds being loose. Came home to 3 hours of benny hill video on my surveillance system with my neighbor drunk (a beer in his hand) and his three grand kids chasing my birds for 3 hours. Never again for him and he can take his dogs on vacation.

Thanks! I think I figured out why no eggs. They locked the remaining birds in the garage for the week . There was o light in there... Uggg.. I can never go away on vacation again!

And all of this is why I hire a bonded animal care taker. Without her help I could never leave home.

Some times hens like to go hide some where when they go broody one time one of my hen whent in to an old dog house i had and whent broody there i did not see her for three weeks but she came back. and we followed her back to where she was nesting and we saw she was nestind in are old dog house.

What a horrible story :/ I'm so sorry this happened to you!! I had a bird go on a "vacation" if you would like to call it that. I think she was milling around in the neighborhood near me and got caught it someone garage and they closed the door. So she had a sleep over. Or she may have gotten lost and went there because she taught it was safe. Because that's where she lived when she was younger (the coop wasn't ready until 5 months) she did not come back till noon-ish the next day. So MABYE they got locked out. And wandered off. Found somewhere warm and is staying there. And will mabye come back? It's possible.but we had a fox take one bird one night and there was absolutely ZERO sign other than a missing bird and birds going back to the garage, (where they were raised) instead of their coop. They did this the next night at dusk. And wouldn't you know it that two other chickens went missing. So locked up for a couple weeks the birds went. The only sign we saw was the second night, there was some blood on the porch where the chickens were. I suppose they got some on their feet from the other bird. It's a scary thing. And those terrible pet sitters didn't help!!! I couldn't understand if they did everything they could do, and followed their instructions. But you caught them in lies. That's just terrible. And you will never know. I'm sorry :/ hopefully they turn up!
