Fowl in the foul swimming pool?

I have a weird question. My house has a large creek a few streets over that is a migration route for crane and ducks and stuff.
We moved into this house about 5 years ago and soon discovered the pool was just rigged to appear to function (don't get me started on what they rigged in the house, our inspector sucked). When you turned on the pool light the water would become electrified (I found this out the very hard way, thank god the dog warned me) and the liner pulled away from the side within a few months. So the pool has had to have the electricity shut off and must remain green and gross till we can afford a new liner and repairs. (has safety fence).
My question is, is this safe for the ducks and stuff that sometimes take a dip in it (we have a lot of crawfish burrows in our yards and the birds love to stop by for a feast, expecially the cranes).
My mom would love to have pet ducks one day but I am nervous about the 'pool'.

You would have to have a pretty good filter to take care of all that poo. Ducks are some of the nastiest creatures when it comes to poo and they love to do it in the water.

While mine was young, I had a kiddie swimming pool for them to play in.. and everytime they hit the water crap started to fly....

If you let the ducks have it it's unlikely that you'll ever get it restored to true "pool" status, but if it's been five years I'd let the ducks in to take care of the mosquitoes. That's actually a really big issue where I am in CA, the Mosquito Vector Control do regular fly-overs to locate green pools and other backyard sites of still water -you can face fines if you don't control mosquitos. The ducks will make short work of mosquito larvae populations!
