So I have a 13 week on D’anver who started a couple weeks ago with a bump on her eye. I thought she at have gotten pecked and that it would heal. The bump has gotten worse and now has scabs and almost looks like bumps on top of bumps. I had one other D’anver who had a small bump on her bottom eyelid too but it has since went away. She acts like nothing is bothering her, eats, drinks, runs around etc. not acting off in anyway. For the past few days I have been putting ointment on it to see if it will help. At this point I still don’t know what I’m dealing with. I have left her with the flock. I have not noticed anyone pecking at it. I have watched her scratch it.

Anyone have any suggestions or input. I have attached.

The first couple pics is what it looked like when I first noticed it. (She’s the bird up front. It’s on the left eye looking at her).

Next pic is a couple days ago after applying the terramycin.

She still need her eyes open doesn’t close it unless I start messing with it.

Edit to add. A couple days ago I did notice it looks like another bump is starting further down on her eyelid. I can only see it when the eye is closed. It looked bigger tonight than it did a couple days ago.

I don’t think it is fowl pox or a peck wound. There are two things I think it could be. The first is that she got something under her eye and it got infected. The second is cancer. Were she my bird, I’d take a look at that smaller yellow bump at the base of her eyelid and if it a slight squeeze to see if I could get any fluid out. If she’ll let you (she very well may not) try to take a flashlight and gently grab the eyelid and take a look between her eyelid and her eye to see if there is any debris. If it is solid, and continues growing small bumps on top of it (kind of a cauliflower appearance), I’d suspect cancer.

I’ve pulled her eyelid back a few times and haven’t been able to see anything. I have even taken a qtip and tried to wipe the inside of the lid. I did try to squeeze on it tonight but she wasn’t having it.

I know cancer doesn’t discriminate but wouldn’t she be a little young for cancer? She’s only 13 weeks old.

Most likely, it is a peck wound. Fowl pox could be possible if you still have mosquitoes out. I would dab on a little plain Neosporin ointment on it daily.
Thank you. We had some mid 70 degree days a couple weeks ago and mosquitos were out some, not like they are in the middle of the summer of course. I’ve been applying terramycin twice a day since Tuesday.

Yes, she is a little young for cancer. Like @Eggcessive said, it could be fowl pox, but given the time of year (though you do live in a more mosquito prone environment), the fact that it is very localized, and that she isn’t displaying other symptoms such as weight loss or lethargy, I wouldn’t immediately jump to fowl pox. If it’s been a couple weeks already, the scab should be starting to heal if it’s fowl pox, and like I said, you’d most likely see more lesions and even possibly be starting to see some in the other birds (though the virus is transmitted very slowly). That’s why I’d suspect infection over fowl pox. However, if over the next several days you see more lesions forming over other areas of her, then I’d begin to suspect fowl pox.

I set up a cage tonight once it got dark where I can keep her isolated. If it’s pecking then I would think it should start to resolve fairly quickly. @Eggcessive is there anything else I should try to do other than applying the ointment?
