Hi everyone, this is my 7 month old White Leghorn hen. I noticed yesterday evening she had some dark staining on the back of her head. I was unable to catch her, for some reason our Leghorns are very skittish. Today I had someone to help me and was able to get her. I have her inside now, separated from the others in a large crate with food and water. I tried to clean the area with an unscented baby wipe, and one of the small scabs came off and started to bleed minimally. We do have one Rhode Island hen that really, really likes to bully our younger hens...
Her eyes, face, and legs are unaffected, and none of our other hens seem affected by anything. She is still eating and drinking normally and peppy.
I am leaning towards a pecking injury but I've disinfected the coop and hen house anyway and ordered some Vetricyn for her wounds. I was just hoping someone else could weigh in with their opinion. Thank you!
