I just found one of my hens with a big sore on her face going into her mouth. She is drinking but I don’t know if she’s eating. She is thin. I cleaned her up and put neosporin on it. I have her separated from the rest of the flock. Is it fowl pox?

It does not look like fowl pox to me. How long has that lesion been there? Does her beak smell bad? Can you get another pair of hands, and look into her beak and throat to see if there is any yellow gunk inside? Canker (also called trich) is a contagious protozoan disease carried by pigeons, and smells bad, and is seen in the picture below. It can interfere with eating, and can spread into the esophagus and crop. Occasionally cancer can look like this as well. Canker is usually treated with Fish Zole (metronidazole, Flagyl,) which you can find online. Dosage is 250 mg daily given orally for 5-7 days. A vet would be best to get a proper diagnosis if one is available. Here is some reading about canker:

It looks like canker. If there's a foul odor as Eggcessive mentioned, it's a dead give away for canker. Canker is contagious to other chickens, ensure waterers are sanitized. Chickens that have canker are carriers for life. It can be kept in check by giving your chickens acidified copper sulfate mixed in water once a month. Dosage is 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water for 3 days. Do not add anything else to the mixture and make it fresh each day. Do not put it in a metal waterer, use a plastic waterer.

That’s exactly what it looks like. It doesn’t smell but that’s what it looks like. What can I do for her until I get the medicine? Does it hurt to keep it clean with hydrogen peroxide and neosporin or am I just wasting my time? Should I force feed her if she is not eating?
