Hello, we noticed our 2 year old hen was hiding under the coop and had these scabs and eye irritation. We saw the scab a week ago and thought she was being picked on for being lower on the totem poll, but it seems to have gotten worse
She’s eating and drinking great though.
Let us know what you think!
Thank you

The facial swelling and bubbles in the eye are common symptoms of respiratory disease, like mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG). If vet care is an option for you, they can test to confirm that. Treatment of symptoms is usually with Tylan or Tylosin, but the disease is chronic and it's not cured. Symptoms can recur during times of stress. The sores on the comb look like injuries to me, probably she was pecked by others due to not feeling well.
Sick or weak birds are often attacked by flockmates as a survival instinct, sick or weak birds can attract predators so the flock may try to drive them out.

The scab on the comb is from injury, not Fowl Pox.

She's got some dried blood on her head feathers and around the eye.

I'd flush the eye with saline, remove any debris, dried blood or pus from the eye and surrounding tissue, then put an ointment like Terramycin in the eye. Do this 2x a day.

If the cause of the swelling and bubbles is due to respiratory infection as mentioned previously, then giving an antibiotic in addition to keeping the eye flushed and ointment applied would be appropriate.

How many birds do you have and how much space?
Do you have a rooster?

Thank you so much for your response. We have 15 hens and 1 rooster. When we built the run we gave them 15 sq ft per bird, about 240 sq ft.

Thank you so much for your reply and advice. We don’t have a chicken vet near so we found and ordered the Tylan. We also started with saline eyewash, vetrx, terramycin eye ointment, vitamins and probiotics We also have her isolated inside. She is doing good and totally loving all the care, attention and love. She is a big sweetheart. Thank you
