Self efficientAre you wanting to just release some adults or breed a self sufficient bird to release?
We got it and a rooster but we had to kill the rooster it first attack a cat ol the cat was too close to hen then it attack a pit bull our pitbull then it atack my step mom that was it we had him for dinner the next morning from a farm year ago it was to wild it would escape their coop and fly into the top of tree.and also all of our chicken all half free range we give them access to coop because our hawk killing roosters we made can't fly to the top of tree they kill coons to one almost killed a coon hear the coon dead the rooster alive he very mammal agrisive. sorry I side tracked anyways we do survive of fitessI’d say maybe to yes. Many hatchery bankivoid gamefowl lines are American gamefowl the hatchery obtained at some point. The free-range instincts are still often present even if that gamefowl line hasn’t free-ranged in a few generations. You’re definitely increasing your chances by using a bankivoid gamefowl from any source over not using any gamefowl.
You need to try it with an entire flock though. Not just a single hen. Starting with a flock will allow the weakest to get picked off while the survivors learn from the experience and their instincts awaken. If you don’t have a whole flock to experiment with, start with a breeding pair or trio, let the biddies grow up to near adulthood, then turn them out and let the process begin.
