Fox 1 chicken found dead, 5 missing

Can't shoot her. I could try and catch her. In the meantime I have some work ahead of me. I plan to build a fully enclosed outdoor pen made of hardware cloth for when I am not home. When I am home (which soon will be 5 days a week (3 days working from home, then the weekend) ) I'm going to have the dog out on patrol and they will be in their bigger fenced in area.

So sad! My chickens were SOO happy!! They were also so close! Oooo I miss them all.

I'm going to buy more this weekend and rebuild my flock.

i felt like you did about shooting the fox too.....you wont catch her, they are just too sly......i lost sleep thinking about shooting the fox too....my chickens have been in an insdie coop for over 2 weeks now...i dont have an outside run as they just free range...seeing them this unhappy and watching the fox kill and drag off my chicken has harden up my heart....let the fox go eat a rabbit!!!!!

It's not legal to shoot a firearm within 500ft of a paved road. It's not legal to shoot a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling without the permission of the residents in the dwellings.. In Massachusetts anyways.

This morning my husband came down stairs to find one of our chickens in the garden headless. Thank god the kids didn't come down first. Since then my son an I have been collecting up the feathers from the garden as there was loads and came across 1 buried in the back flower bed headless so now only one missing which i presume the fox has taken, we have looked everywhere all i can see is a few spots of blood and a lot of feathers.
Looking to get some more as the kids are devastated my 5 yr old girl used to carry my bantam around like a doll and talk to her all the time, this puzzles me also as it seems its taken the bantam and left the bigger two. Anyway I've been doing a bit of research and there's alot of people saying that men's urine around the boundary line works really well and human hair, any thoughts on this????
