I had 11 hens 1 rooster and things seemed perfect. No predators since last season then naturally the wind picked up and a fox-or more than one fox attacked. They have climbed up our coop and gone in between the netting(mesh), this must have happened around 5:30 am as my mother was up getting ready for work she heard a weird crying sort of noise and figured it was a new type of animal. Later that morning at about 6 Mum walked down to let the horses out into their paddock, as she came back she saw what she thought was a log. This log was a Hen-our Plymouth Rock hen Hannah. Absolutely horrified she looked over and saw another hen this time an ISA brown-Scarlett. She wondered why two hens were dead. Her eyes went to the rest of the coop and there lay our beautiful Leghorn, mixes, ISA brown, plaitnum Sussex, New Hampshire red, barnevalda, and all our other beautiful hens-dead. I just want some support as my family and I are a mess. I will share some pics later. And you mark my words those darn foxes will not get any more chickens.

I'm so sorry. I too have experienced losing all of my birds at once in one swoop by a single predator. It is so, so rough when that happens, and so hard to want to start all over again with new chicks. I've had breaks of one or two years in between having chickens after something like this happens. It's just heartbreaking, but I always give in and go back to having chickens.

Times like this are tough, but having chickens is also so rewarding. I wish you luck with any future feather-babies you welcome into your home. I can tell from the pictures that your chickens were very loved and well-cared for. At least they definitely had a good life with you.

Oh golly you’ll make me cry. Thankyou so much, that’s so sweet. Every Fox attack we have had has been during the day or one at night where we lost two. Sadly this is the first one where more than one fox has been involved and they have not taken the body’s. The worst part is that the rooster was still half alive. There is nothing like that’s feeling when you want to save something but you know you can’t. He died at 7:10am this morning. It’s so Awful. But I’m sure all Those who have lost birds know the feeling of Sadness after you know your beloved pets won’t be waiting for you the next morning. :( sorry I know it’s a bit of a downer I’m just a mess. We had to put my beloved Great Dane down 2 weeks ago and now to have had a fox kill all my favourite chickens. It’s so sad.
