Fox attack - limp neck

Pics
Yes, I'm glad I started the a/b. Today was a better day taking them, too. I broke the tablet into quarters and put them down her throat. She cooperated very well. Prior, it's been quite a stressful experience giving her the syringe. This is so much easier. After looking her over I see that she has quite large areas of bruising, not just her neck, it's on her shoulders along the wings and all over the front of her, around her crop, it's very large. I don't find any puncture wounds or scratches. It worries me that she has or had internal bleeding. Skin is so smokey blue colored. : \ She's very restful today. I don't know if it's a sign of recuperating, or a sign of going down hill. She's not as hungry.

I was able to get her to eat Exact, yogurt, watermelon juice, she scratched at a peach and cantaloupe, has some electrolyte water and Poultry cell water. She is not interested in plain water. Her beak just sits in it and she doesn't want it. Wonder why?

I can imagine how sore she is all over and this is why she is not wanting to move. Occasionally she pushes back w/her feet and moves out her right wing. When I clean her butt, I think she is glad to get up and move a bit as we position her. She's a tad bit stronger in her neck. First time today we heard a couple clucks out of her. She's normally a quiet hen though.

I'm using the cold pack for only 20 minutes, after that it's lost all it coldness (it's not that great) and it has basically become her main neck support. It works extremely well for that. Its an Ace floppy cold pack with material around it and it doesn't sweat. I've had it for years. She seems to like it and I've always thought cold pack is good for bruising. I do not do this throughout the day, mostly only twice a day. I did not do this from the start though. I've always known that it's best after a couple of days for therapy.

Thank you very much for your help :) I'm still going to leave her at 60/40 for survival because I'm still very unsure of the outcome. It was nice to get little cluck today. Was so nice to hear.

It could be the blood from the bruising reabsorbing. Sometimes if bruising accompanied swelling as the swelling moves and absorbs the blood making the bruise color will move too.
I had mentioned trying to switch sides that she lays on so there is no pooling of fluid.
You could try and make a sling for her to "walk her" if you think she's up to it. Support her from underneath and stand her up. It will make her more upright and help her circulation.

I have tried to put her on the opposite side but she won't allow me, she flails a bit so I just have to lay her on her left side. I do keep trying to offer it though. That is a great idea about a sling. Someone showed me a picture of a bin with a sling type apparatus in it and I thought that was a great idea. Wow, just looked at some slings online, images. That is very cool, and perhaps I will be making one of these soon :) I am worried about her laying on her side too much, but for now thats about all she can do. I hope to see her work her way up to a sling. This is great. Thank you!

She's getting down at least 75ml I've been keeping an eye on her crop and its plump after eating and drinking. I had to spend a longer time with her today while getting her to drink. But I made sure she finished to the bottom of the cup.

Also, that cap is 15ml not 12.5. I'm using that for measurement.

It may sound silly, but I light a candle every day for Olga and you. I am so impressed by your dedication and her feistiness.

How is she today?
Hi. She's doing "ok". I'm seeing signs of her being able to hold her neck up, and she was very alert when we took her out to sit in the grass this evening. She enjoyed looking into the grass and did try to peck at it. She ate and drank ok, and boy is it easier putting pieces of the a/b tablet into her mouth vs syringe. Bruising looked better today and she's pooped 3 times today. I was able to get her to lay on the other side but only for a couple of hours. She pushed herself into the other position but it wasn't quite right, had to help her out. I think maybe not tomorrow but the next day she could be ready to sit in a sling. She's not as hot around the neck anymore. I think her survival chances are increasing, but mobility will remain questionable for a while. She had a rather decent day. :)

We've spent the entire weekend in this beautiful weather sprucing up and adding more security to the coop. Feels tight as a drum. Double locks w/clips on the pen and coop, added new staples to the mesh, added mesh to inside and outside of windows. I hate to say that fox will never get in because anything is possible, but he's gonna have one heck of time trying to do so. The way it looks now, nothing is getting in there! I've been such a worry wart that I'm even considering a baby monitor. Looking into electric fencing to go around the pen, and motion lights, and an alarm. my husband thinks I'm going insane we might as well bring them in the house at night!LOL Which is exactly what we are doing with two of our roosters that don't have a pen yet. We were building it before this happened. It's almost done, they're roosting in our garage at night/tractor by day. We're going chicken crazy. But it's ok...If we're going to keep chickens, it's up to us to keep them safe. Locking them up tight is top priority.

Thanks for asking :)
