Fox attack / Rooster hanging head

I hope your bird is still alive? I had a similar problem. very large Orpington with severely damaged and bruised neck from fox attack. He was dragged along way but the fox abandoned him, due to size I think, and a neighbour saw him at the side of the road. For the first few days I used a cardboard box packed hay tight around him so that his neck could rest on the hay infront of him. I syringe fed him pureed cat food several times a day, holding his head right up so that he could swallow. I gave Meloxicam as pain relief for the first three days. His neck went green from the bruising and it was probably two weeks, maybe more (it's some years ago now) before he could hold his own head up. He was a very big bird so I think that made it worse. He made a full recovery.

I believe he is in shock. He's not panting today but head still dropped to the floor. He's laying down a lot now. I make him get up and I dip his beak into watered down chicken feed and every so often he'll snap out of his daze and take a drink of the slop. It's like he's coming in and out of consciousness even though he's awake. If I tap his bowl like a chicken pecking, the sound snaps him out of it long enough to get a couple bites. Then I hold his head up to get it into his crop. I don't think he'll make it through the night. Can chickens come out of shock this intense? Its very sad. He did good protecting his hens ❤️ he's been mean to me a couple times but now my heart is broken. I hope I see the day his attitude comes back. It's just not the same without his presence.
I don't know much I'm really rather new to this, but this group helped me and my rooster tremendously! They are awesome with great advice. Please read my threads on my roosters very recent dog attack. He was in absolute shock they way yours is as well and I thought he was going to die everyday since. Except today! He is pulling through this and he is definitely recovering. Just stick with it, it's worth it, he's tough, he will recover. That is every encouraging word ( but there's more) that this group has reassured me with! Best of luck to you with your rooster man!
