Fox attack!

Poor Baby, she looks hurt, I'm shocked she laid! If I were you I'd put a top on the run! Both of my runs are completely enclosed. I have a chicken wire top, and sides. Only a bear can get into my runs. You can use other materials, but something wire is best to keep our predators. You don't want this to happen again. I'm so sorry about this.

Also, I meant to add, have you found out how the fox got in with your chickens? In my experience, once a predator learns that there are chickens to be had somewhere, they keep returning for more.
She has laid her first egg since Friday. My goodness she’s proud of herself. Vocal chords damaged she wheezes it out rather than clucks! One tough chicken...
Just want to say, she has made a full recovery...she’s now called Ruby Nelson as she has one eye! Her cluck has returned, she’s laying again and as the main flock rejected her, she has three new companions. They are living close to each other but separate....hopefully in time they will all be happy together.

Thanks for the update! So happy to hear she has made a full recovery.

How did you end up solving the fox problem?

Well....my husband and sons have built a cage to cover the coop. There is now a security light and a radio playing overnight on radio 4. Apparently voices keep foxes at bay and sudden lights?
They also “scent marked” the area. The newbies and Ruby are in a fox resistant Eglu until we feel they can mix.

That is awesome! Thank you so much for letting us know!

I'm so glad to hear your girl made a great recovery. I know you are too! Also I'm glad to hear you have put a roof over the girls heads and done all you can to keep them safe. Good work!
