I too am very sorry about your henVery sorry that your hen was severly injured. Honestly, because of such deep and extensive wounds, I am not sure that she will survive, even if you had good vet care. It looks like we can see internal organs, and she has lost so much skin and fat that cover her thigh that Inam not sure that could heal. I would consider putting her down if she appeara to be suffering.
Thanks for your adviceI too am very sorry about your hen
I'm afraid I agree with @Eggcessive she is severely injured and I too would consider putting her down.
If you don't want to put her down, then I highly recommend that you seek vet care. You are in the UK and she will need an antibiotic which your vet will need to prescribe. I don't see how they would stitch her up. Generally wounds on chickens are not stitched anyway and left open.
Thank you, yes tbh I feel exhausted, it 10pm I've tried her wit another drink and sprayed her again, she appears comfortable, no laboured breathing, I've put her back in unit so I'm going to go to bed so I can have a early start in morning, thanks again. It’s good if she’s eating, I’d just let her rest now. You’ll probably want to rest too, I know how stressful these situations get![]()
Oh thankyou and I'm so glad your girl was OK, I am trying everything, I feel very deflated, I know to some they it's only a chicken, but they are not, she is family and I love herSo sorry about your hen. I actually had something similar happen once, but she recovered really well. I had a hen years ago that was attacked by a dog and a massive portion of skin+meat was missing from her back. I took her inside because I was sure she was about to die, but she perked up and I cleaned it really well and kept applying ointment. It healed and all the feathers filled in and it was like it never happened. Chickens can bounce back from really bad stuff sometimes!
