Fox attack

:hugs If she doesn't make it she will go to the most wonderful place that you could think of:

Plenty of treats!
Free ranging all the time with no worry of predators!
No risk of injuries or sickness!
Plenty of worms and bugs!
Dust bathes for everyone!
No feather picking!
And the list goes on an ON and ON and ON and ON!!!!!

I know she will because she the loveliest chicken, bless her I feel so useless, but trying everything

Very sorry that your hen was severly injured. Honestly, because of such deep and extensive wounds, I am not sure that she will survive, even if you had good vet care. It looks like we can see internal organs, and she has lost so much skin and fat that cover her thigh that Inam not sure that could heal. I would consider putting her down if she appeara to be suffering.
I too am very sorry about your hen :hugs

I'm afraid I agree with @Eggcessive she is severely injured and I too would consider putting her down.

If you don't want to put her down, then I highly recommend that you seek vet care. You are in the UK and she will need an antibiotic which your vet will need to prescribe. I don't see how they would stitch her up. Generally wounds on chickens are not stitched anyway and left open.

Thanks for your advice

It’s good if she’s eating, I’d just let her rest now. You’ll probably want to rest too, I know how stressful these situations get :hugs
Thank you, yes tbh I feel exhausted, it 10pm I've tried her wit another drink and sprayed her again, she appears comfortable, no laboured breathing, I've put her back in unit so I'm going to go to bed so I can have a early start in morning, thanks again.

So sorry about your hen. I actually had something similar happen once, but she recovered really well. I had a hen years ago that was attacked by a dog and a massive portion of skin+meat was missing from her back. I took her inside because I was sure she was about to die, but she perked up and I cleaned it really well and kept applying ointment. It healed and all the feathers filled in and it was like it never happened. Chickens can bounce back from really bad stuff sometimes!

Oh thankyou and I'm so glad your girl was OK, I am trying everything, I feel very deflated, I know to some they it's only a chicken, but they are not, she is family and I love her 😢

So sorry about you chicken! I hope she gets better soon! 🤞🙁 Unfortunately, I have never had a fox attack that has resulted in an injury, the only time the fox came to mine, it killed two hens and took them off with it. I would just keep doing what you are doing by keep her warm and safe! Perhaps mush up her food so she doesn't have to use her neck to peck the food if she has got bite marks on her neck.

It IS hard and they ARE family. :hugs
That's why you really need to be ready to make a wise choice if you think she is suffering. Sometimes a peaceful end has more love and dignity than ongoing pain, infection, and what it is going to take to heal from this. Based on the pictures, it is bad.

Be sober minded and always consider what is best for her, before considering what may be best for you. I know that sounds harsh and I am sorry for I don't mean it to be.
