Fox attack

I've just experienced a fox attack that got 2 of my new pullets. I thought they were nocturnal!!! This is the middle of the day and it got two of them. The one who was laying, my white egg layer and then the one who was going to give me blue eggs.

I let them roam the yard during the day.

Now I have my 2 jerk old chickens, my 1 jerk pullet and the spare pullet I got just to have more babies.

How do you get rid of foxes? I don't think I'm a good aim shooting. Do the traps for raccoons work?

We are surrounded by woods. We have motion sensors in the area most predators come from. Foxes are really smart. I don't know if you could trap one.

Practice your shooting skills. Get a good scope.

Ugh, my front yard video cam got the kill and take away of my white egg laying chicken on film. I had hope. Maybe the blue egg layer ??

4 of the 6 remaining chickens are under a deck and won't come out to go back into the coop.

So far, other than rats, my coop and enclosure have been secure.

But then in the past 12 years of having chickens, I've never had a predator attack.

Blue egg layer returned. Looking a little less fluffy, but she did get up on the roost so I'm assuming she's okay.

Train a dog to protect your chickens.You won't be sorry.

Fox will be back. Keep the chickens inside electric fencing.

Hopefully you are still using this account. I had ducks last summer, but foxes got to them twice. I ended up giving away my last few ducks because no matter what I did they still got to them. Even though our property is a good size, I live in the suburbs and can't pick them off with a rifle. I wonder what was the outcome? I see the last reply to your post was the suggestion of electric fencing. Did you give that a try and how did it go? thank you

I’ve not tried it. The fox got the chicken when they were outside their coop and enclosure. They have been safe in their coop/enclosure for 12 years, though now I need to reinforce the security. I have bought hardware cloth to redo the perimeter apron.

Unfortunately I’m away from home for a couple weeks so nothing will be done. Except researching the electric fence. How does it not hurt the chickens is my first question?

The enclosure held up to neighbors dog this morning. Though he was harassing, not intent on eating. Sucked seeing that when we weren’t home

Their feathers prevent chickens from being shocked.The only way it can shock them is bare spots,their combs and feet. Animals can get trapped in electric netting if it sags so check it frequently.Its an excellent option though.
