Hello,

My hen got attacked by a fox on Sunday and she is drinking not eating yet. I’ve been giving her sugar water and elecrotyles. I read it’s bad to keep giving electrolytes after a few days.

Is this true? Or should I keep giving them to her

She isn’t moving really. Just has her eyes closed, sometimes opened them but just for a second. And just standing still. So hard to tell if it’s shock still or some internal damage

I would wrap her in a towel and put her in her own warm, quiet space if she isn't already.... Sounds like no wounds to care for? She must be in shock. You did the right thing with Electrolytes, you could continue that for just a few more days and if you have some Nutridrench or Rooster Booster type of stuff to get nutrients in her.... I've had it go both ways with shock, sure hope she recovers.

Do you see any injuries? Have you tried giving her scrambled egg, tuna in water, canned cat food, oatmeal...any soft foods or anything she really loves?

I've noticed when I have an injured bird that is in pain they don't want to eat. You could give her a low dose 81mg aspirin for pain.

I just saw your original thread.

Head and neck injuries are tough. Especially the neck because they don't want to swallow. I would try to get the aspirin in her. And also to try and get her to eat some soft foods.

You may need to dissolve the aspirin in a little water and use an eye dropper to put little drops in her beak. Not too much at one time so she doesn't choke.

Aspirin only not Tylenol or ibuprofen.

I have no experience whatsoever in helping to heal birds, but in the past I’ve sprinkled ghost pepper powder on my chickens and around their coop , for predators hate spice and birds don’t mind. I hope your bird gets better!
