fox attack

Today one of my barred rock was attacked by a fox. She survived but the fox tore a lot of feathers out and a large patch of skin, about a 2 square inch piece from her upper thigh area. some pieces of fat and skin are hanging around that area.Does anyone know if this could heal? Can she grow more skin where ther isn't any? I'm afraid it might become infected,although my coop is pretty clean. Even the cleanest coop I sure has bacteria in it. I'm sooo upset!!!!!! PLease help!

Something got three of my RIR's a while back and again last night. Im not sure if its a fox or a racoon, but whatever it is, when I catch it, its gonna be made into a fox stole<sp> or a racoon cap!!

P.S. One of the RIR's that survived had some feathers missing from her neck and I just left it alone and its healing fine. If your worried you can get some stuff at your local co-op or feed mill to put on it to keep the bugs off it and it should heal fine. Hopefully, the shock wont kill her.

She should heal - I've had a rooster pick a few hens like that on their necks (he turned into stew)...What I found worked best is to squirt betadine in the wound to keep out infection...The hen that I didn't use this on got infected and died

I'm wondering if peroxide would work, one of our buffs was attacked yesterday by a fox I'm thinking, anyway she has 3 bite wounds on her back, missing lots of feathers. All i could do was splash peroxide as she was hobbling away from me, now she wont let me anywhere near cause she knows. Our dearly departed rooster, Elvis, apparently saved her life by giving his.

we had a coyote attack yesterday and a fox today. One hen was wounded on her neck and the one today disappeared. Infection and shock are what you need to tend to most. Good luck. It is possible for them to recover.

Try to keep Mr Fox away as he will kill all your chickens if he has a chance.
We keep a goat and foxes hate the smell of goats. However, the goat is such a grumpy creature with horns a foot long WE are scared to go anywhere near him let alone the fox. He, however, is happy to share his food with the chickens!

Thanks for the replies- She has lost a lot of skin and wonder if I should trim the fat that hanging- I will spray some benadine on it Hope it doesn't sting. She dosen't seem to have gotten schocked.Past that point. Infection is more of a concern now. Any suggestions-please help! Thanks
