So, a week ago two of my four girls got attacked by a fox. One didn't make it , the other has a big gash in her side under her wing. I have read a few posts about dog attacks. The info was great. That being said she hasn't missed a beat! She lays an egg every day, eats, drinks and goes to the bathroom, takes dust baths (which I was not happy about). Our dressing routine is this: rinsing with Bactine, coating in polysporin and wrapping with gauze. The other day I also started adding to the top of all that a cut up strip of t-shirt because that's the day she decided to dust bath. I did have her separated at night so the others wouldn't peck her but I was keeping a close eye on them while they were out during the day and they aren't pecking at her. I put them together last night and they are fine.
There are a couple things I need some help with. I have only been doing this chicken thing for a month I did read about using and have bought some blu kote, however I am kinda scared to use it because the cut is big enough I can see muscle....? I also know it needs to breath, which I don't think it can under all that wrapping. I am scared to leave it uncovered because I don't want a maggot infestation and i don't want her to take another dust bath. Someone told me to put her in a crate in my basement until she heals but she seems so happy otherwise, I feel like it would be cruel. And I know she wouldn't stay locked up with out a lot of noise!
Any and all suggestions/ info would be greatly appreciated.
