Fox attack

Last year a coyote broke the latch on my duck coop and ate/stole two of my three ducks. The remaining little guy was so traumatized, he was in total shock. The entire next day, he would not eat, drink, or hold his head up. The following day, he died. This is pretty convincing proof for me, at least, that ducks have emotions. And of course I had checked the little guy for wounds, but physically he was unattacked--not even a ruffled feather.

This year, I am using a system that is ten times stronger!! I do not think that ANY predator has a chance of getting inside. After the heartbreak of that episode, I take animal attacks very seriously.

Good luck!
So sorry for your losses but glad to here you are taking predators much more serious now.

Well good news she has survived the first 36 hours. She is drinking well when I hold the water up for her and tried a little nibble of food. This morning she even tried to preen herself with the others but her neck hurt to much and she couldnt move it to far. The other two seem good one even layed an egg this morning and they are both quacking madly at me to go outside but id like to keep them together and the one with the neck injury isnt well enough yet. How many nights should I keep them inside do you all think? Im too petrified to ever let them out but they are fast smelling out the entire house

If you have flies I wouldn't let either of the injured ones outside or you maybe dealing with maggots they can really wreck havoc on wounds and cause death even, so try to hang in there till their wounds have closed up. Try those scented candles around the room to keep the smell down. I use Lavender oil in water as a spray and even spray my duck bedding and chicken coops with it,. Glad to hear they are healing thanks for the update.

I don't know about the emotions part, but my second year with ducks, the neighbor dog killed two and hurt a third. We called him "Lucky". He followed me everywhere, but it was sad to watch because he was alone. Ducks seem to me to be flock animals and if they lose the flock, they suffer. We finally decided to find someone with ducks and took him to live there.
