Sadly, we had a fox attack about 3 weeks ago on our 5 feathered friends. Awoke to find dishoveled rooster, missing his wattle, although no blood, & one decapitated hen and one hen gone all together. Our buff orp had a wound on her back, just below neck. I caught her and sprayed with BluKote. She laid around for a few days away from the rooster and other hen but went back in with them at night. On week 2, the orp started hanging out with her friends again, rooming the yard and compost. All seemed well. A day or 2 later, she came out of the coop with a massive wound. She had been pecked and opened up almost from wing to wing. I cleaned her up with peroxide and put on neosporin. Did this a few days and added iodine to the treatment. Feeding her a scrambled egg a day with a crushed baby aspirin, fresh berries and yogurt (along with her regular feed). Not sure how much water she is drinking but did drink some gatorade. Ive been putting her outside in enclosed pen and she seems desparate to be back with her flock (we added 2 more since). She is healing very very well but is missing a lot of feathers near the wound. What can I do so others wont peck her? Is there ANYTHING to put on her? I tried a small pet 'harness' that covered the area well but she def not enjoying that. She just lays on the ground with it on...Any suggestions, advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanx!!
