fox issues

Has anyone used this product? It is called the Phantom Pest Wildlife Deterrent, the site is www.freewebs.com/walnut_creek_enterprises/fox.htm

My father is losing a few chickens to a bold, daytime hunting fox. He gave in and lets them free-range without a fence (Eeek, I know, I may just spring for the materials for him. He took down his little pen when he was successful at free-ranging them for a few weeks. Ooops.)

He sent me the above link. Has anyone tried this, if so, is it worth it?

I am thinking "electro-net!" I have suggested "22!" But mom is resisting that idea for now.

No, I haven't used this product. But, for the price they are charging for their most expensive model $145.00, I'd be 3/4ths of the way to buying 100ft. of 6' 1"x2" welded wire fencing.

It `sounds' like a good idea, but so does dissuading foxes by urinating around the perimeter. The problem is that foxes aren't stupid and learn quickly (classical learning/operant conditioning) and come to associate the smell of urine/sound of `cougar' with chicken dinner. It is possible to `teach' a human to salivate at the merest whiff of ammonia (not recommended but it can be done), foxes, too, can learn to recognize a new dinner `bell'.

At the very least, go with the electric netting (six ft. tall if possible).

Sure hope he has some survivors!

Day time fox = a .22 will solve that problem and only cost you about 15 cents for the bullet..

However there will always be more coming around sooner or later and so maybe the fence would be best.. or traps will work if your diligent about it..

A 7mm-08 is to much power a 22-250 in say 55 grainer would be better!!!

They got some powerful air guns out there to that work, there is some video on you tube of them taking fox, ram, and bison or Buffalo with air rifles, some are beefed up air rifles shooting .177 to 50 cal size pellets if you wanna call them them pellets.....
