Foxes are all over the place. If you want to free range, even supervised, you have to accept that at some point a predator will at least try to take one of your chickens. I'm of the "do the best you can, but realize nothing is perfect" school. My chickens have a covered run, with an apron, with hot wire running around everything, but I still get nervous because I know that there are literally hundreds of animals all around my property that would love to get their paws on my chickens. I don't free range, because I don't want to take the risk, but when you look at free ranging chickens, they seem so happy, that I understand why other people do.
In the end, I guess it's up to the individual keeper. There are certainly a lot of reasons to free range, but you might have to accept an occasional loss, even if you are supervising.
