Agreed - Fox hunt in the daylight - so they shouldn't be considered sick if you see one. Opossum are nocternal - I worry any time I see an opossum in the daylight unless I surprised him.

In any case - for something like a trouble fox its really quite simple to be legal. one phone call. Its not worth risking the fine.

Here's hoping I catch that fox today! In the daylight! before I get home from work !!

I'll have to call my taxidermist & see what it costs to tan a fox. Since I'm legal & all.

A common misconception is that animals are nocturnal they are just opportunistic and they feed when people are not around it is more often a case of minimum human activity which is generally at night LOL If you are in the woods or marsh just a little bit it is nothing to see animals all day long LOL Laws vary by the different states here in Va we do not have the same laws apply when I am doing adc then when I am fur trapping and even different ones when hunting fur bearers it is best to ask your DNR or game and fish and not go by what some one on the internet says LOL good luck on getting rid of the problem

Did you every catch that fox? We dealt with fox all last year and saw our first one of the season yesterday. DH needs to teach me how to shoot a gun! He was able to run out there with the gun but wasnt able to get a good shot. He still took a shot and wounded it. We both hate that. We prefer it die as quick and painless as possible... even still DH was excited cuz he is an avid hunter and got to shoot at something.

Just wanted to add my two cents... the DNR is quite powerful and are the agency that governs wildlife... you break their laws and they can do really crappy things in return. For example, they have the power to take away anything that was used to store the item you used to illegally kill wildlife. That means that if you keep your gun in your home and you shoot an animal outside of DNR laws, they "can" take your home... they may not but they can.

Anyway, just some food for thought.

I got him!

I should have taken pics - I had the camera but was so excited I forgot.

Sucker wont eat any more of my hens!

I did it legal too - called the right people & got a permit.

I bought the largest live trap they had at the farm store & about a pound of chicken wings (expired date from the butcher). I sprinkled the wings around & in the trap.

I fed the fox for about 3 days. he would set off the trap from the outside & not get caught.

Once I had him coming back I put them all inside way to the back of the trap.

HA

Several years ago I guy I worked with violated a minor hunting law (he went to buddy's house for a lunch break during Turkey season, saw a Tom in the backyard and opened the door and shot it from the back porch). As he was checking the bird in, he was telling the story to the game officer (not realizing there was a law about not shooting a firearm within a specified distance from an occupied building). They seized his turkey, gun, and truck, and gave him a significant fine. The rationale on the truck was that he used it to transport illegally-acquired game (to the game wardens office, in order to check it in as required by law!!!!!).

Each state is different.

I agree - as easy as it is to get a neusance permit in IL. Go ahead & get one. All it takes is a single phone call & they mail it out to you.

The hardest part was finding the phone number. It took a bit of web searching but once I got it - direct line to the man!
