Fragile feathers

I have a barn yard mix chicken that I think has fragile feathers. She's a smaller girl but I have a RIR (also smaller) that hasn't lost any of her feathers. Should I get her a saddle? I don't want her to get bare backed like I've seen on some pictures online. The rooster is young and doesn't have spurs yet, I'm thinking it could get even worse for her.
