Francolins? Easier than Hungarians?

Okay, I'm in the Piney Woods of East Texas so Hungarians are probably a better environmental match but, they seem like tough little hellions to raise and they are relatively expensive.

Are Francolins a better choice? I don't want something super high maintanence. Do they fight like the Huns? Are they 1 roo to several hens? Can they be run in coveys or do you need individual cages? Also, if I'm missing a good resource on-line, please point me to it.

Where should I look for the European and African strains? So far, online sources are very limited.

Start with the erkle first they are the cheapest and easy to raise, then move to yellow throated, then black, there are other strains in the us but are uncommon

Any recommendations for chicks or eggs? All I found with web searches were either very old threads, fly tying, or Hawaii except for one pair of overpriced adults.

Try jack lutes in Kansas, mel royal in Indian did have some, I may have some blacks this fall if all goes well

Hi Kevin, the black and others are also available in Texas at AC aviary. If anyone needs his contact i will be happy to share. The Grey is the though to find in the US. In the UK they are plenty. I will try Jack Lutes in kansas. Do you have his contact info by chance?
